It was always my intention to record an all acoustic solo album during 2020 so I started putting together ideas in Early Feb. Around the middle of March the world suddenly shifted, Covid 19 had struck and England went in to lock down. As my only income came from performing live gigs this was a major blow to me and my family, so I took to performing ‘live stream gigs’ on Facebook and those lovely people who donated (and, as I write, continue to donate) to those gigs have literally kept me afloat during these crazy times. Some of their lovely faces can be seen in the centre spread of this booklet. Also this album became a lifeline for me due to all those lovely people that also pre-ordered this album. Thank you All. x
Now the one good thing about lock down, of course, is that I had a lot more spare time on my hands to concentrate on the album and get it ready for the July release I had set myself. I recorded over 30 songs in all and there’s no way I’d have got it all finished for in time if lock down hadn’t happened! This is my 6th solo album but it’s also actually my first because this is the first time on a full album where I’ve played everything myself (usually I get some of my amazingly talented friends to make me sound better!) but I wanted something that was honest and true to my ‘sound’. It’s an album full of ‘me’. My approach to the production is “what if there were 5 or 6 of me playing/singing everything around a microphone?” So I hope you like the sound of that… :)
As the time of writing I’ve no idea when I’ll be out gigging and earning money again. I miss playing live very much and I’m hoping this CD might be a calling card for future gigs. But who knows what’s going to happen. If you’re reading this is the future when the world has gone back to ‘normal’ then you’ll know so please give us a wave and remember back to these uncertain days…
A special mention to my beautiful soul mate Tam for joining me on this album and for being the amazing, supportive person she is in all my musical adventures. Without her none of this would be happening. ‘Solo album’? Who am I kidding? X M
