about

‘A HANDFUL OF STARS: Best Of The Live Stream Gigs’ is a collection of 26 songs from throughout my musical career (featuring songs from my solo albums as well as tracks written with RIVERSEA, MOON HALO and GABRIEL) stripped down to an intimate one voice, one acoustic guitar format… Recorded live during online ‘live stream gigs’ during January/February 2021 this album also contains spoken intros for all of the songs explaining some of the background behind some of the songs as well as some of the spontaneous humour and interaction from Tam and myself with our ‘live stream family’… There’s been no overdubs, no studio trickery: this is a live performance ‘as it happened’…

At the beginning of 2020 I never thought that a year later I’d have played 80-odd ‘live stream gigs’ and that I’d be releasing a live download album recorded in our living room. But who could imagine what the world would go through (and, as I write, still going through) during that year and the next. As Covid19 hit and lockdowns became a very real thing my only income (going out and gigging live) was cut off over night and I stared into the abyss of financial ruin. My Saviours came in the form of the amazing people who ‘tuned in’ to our twice weekly live stream gigs and between them generously donated just enough money each week to ‘keep me afloat’ during the ‘Dark Times’. They have also during this time, unbelievably, clubbed together bought me a new guitar and amp for my PA! I can never thank those incredible people enough for how they have helped me and my family and we dedicate this live album to them.
Of course I couldn’t do these gigs on my own and on these live stream gigs I’ve been joined by my gorgeous soul mate and life partner Tam who reads out the comments and interacts with our ‘live stream family’. During the live streams she also laughs contagiously and throws affectionate insults at me on a regular basis. When putting this live album together there was no way I could leave off some of those ‘in-between bits’ as they have become a big part of the ‘live stream experience’ and, I think, a big reason why people come back week after week. Without Tam by my side I don’t think the live stream gigs would have been half as good or as successful as they have been for us. In fact, I’m going to really miss her when I finally get to go out and play live pub/club gigs on my own (hopefully) later this year…
So we hope you enjoy this live album. It’s all there warts and all. No over dubs. No studio trickery. A trip through my musical career in it’s most raw and naked form. From our living room to yours. Thank you for sharing the journey with us and I hope we get to see you out in the real world soon… x
